To my opinion, Walcha’s solution is much more elegant than Göncz one, which is heavy, repetitive and too much demonstrative. The two combinations of the 4 themes Walcha gives at the end are well introduced, elegant, and.. enough. Good job.

Noting that it’s at 07:57 that JS Bach laid down his pen, Walcha’s solution is not bad (it’s simpler and more humble than what Göncz did in 2006); however, Göncz is still much more successful (notably in exploring the possibilities of having all 4 themes together, with the last and most important one – the real theme of the whole work – being shown in both original and inverted forms.

It doesn’t help that Walcha’s dealing with a smaller organ than he did with Alkmaar’s Laurenskerk. 4/5
